Minimally Invasive Surgery for a Herniated Disc

Surgery team in the operating room .A herniated disc is typically accompanied by quite a bit of pain and discomfort. Unfortunately, this pain can radiate from the neck and back region into other parts of the body, such as the legs.

Recently, a patient presented with a herniated disc at L3/L4, which had been bothering him for roughly three years. Prior to visiting with us, an orthopedic surgeon diagnosed the problem as degenerative disc disease, despite an MRI showing differently.

After reviewing another MRI, we worked closely with the patient to implement a treatment plan for helping rid him of pain once and for all.

The best course of action was minimally invasive surgery, which was successful in correcting the problem. Approximately one year later, the patient returned for an outpatient lumbar decompression on L5, which brought an end to his severe lower leg cramping.

While minimally invasive surgery is not the answer to every back and neck injury, there are times – such as this one – when it’s the best course of action.
