What is an ACDF?

Just because you’re suffering from neck pain and/or discomfort doesn’t mean you should think the worst. There’s a good chance that you can treat the underlying issue through non-surgical methods such as ice therapy, heat therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture.

However, if the root of the problem is more severe — such as a herniated disc or bone spurs in the neck — a surgical procedure could be the most efficient and effective way to find relief.

If that’s the case, it’s essential to learn more about all your options. That includes an ACDF. An anterior cervical discectomy and fusion is a spine surgery that involves removing all or part of a diseased or damaged intervertebral disc to relieve pressure on the spinal nerve(s) in the cervical spine or neck.

With this approach, pressure is taken off of the nerve roots to reduce or eliminate pain and discomfort.
