Use Water Therapy to Treat Back Pain

spine healthAlthough there are times when surgery is the only way to permanently fix back pain, this isn’t always the best treatment option. You may be able to get your life back on track – all without the pain and discomfort – by taking part in the right type of therapy.

While most people are familiar with physical therapy, there is something else to consider: water therapy.

This is exactly what it sounds like: you rehab your back injury in the water.

Here are some of the many things you should know about water therapy (also known as pool therapy):

·      You will take part in an exercise program that is designed to use the resistance of water to improve your health

·      Water therapy provides many of the benefits of swimming, including the ability to boost your back health with less pressure and stress than other forms of therapy

·      The warmth of the water can go a long way in relaxing tight muscles, thus providing greater range of motion

Don’t shy away from water therapy because you don’t know what to expect. Instead, embrace the fact that this could be just what you need to improve your health.

Early on, your sessions will be full of gentle exercise that is meant to get you on the right track. From there, the exercises will become more challenging as to enhance the benefits.

If back pain is dragging you down and you’ve yet to experiment with water therapy, discuss this with your doctor. It may be just what you need!
