Treatment for Neck Pain Originating from the Cervical Spine

Neck pain originating from the cervical spine has the potential to stop you dead in your tracks. Even on good days, the discomfort is enough to stop you from doing the things you enjoy the most.

Fortunately, there are a variety of ways to treat this type of pain, thus giving you several options for regaining control of your life.

In most cases, treatment begins with conservative measures for a minimum of one month. This includes but is not limited to:

•    Anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen and Naproxen
•    Physical therapy
•    Alternative therapies, such as acupuncture

Should you begin to feel better, your medical team may suggest that you continue down this treatment path for another month.

Conversely, if you don’t make any progress, it may be time to consult with a neurosurgeon.

Your neurosurgeon will order a variety of tests, such as an MRI of the cervical spine, to better understand your condition.

Depending on their findings, surgery may be the best path forward. It’s not preferred, but it has the potential to relieve your pain and help you feel like yourself again.
