The Right Way to Lift Heavy Objects

It’s that time of the year. You’re spring cleaning your home. You’re mowing the lawn. You’re getting your garden ready for the months to come.

With all of these tasks — among many others — it’s likely that you’ll find yourself carrying heavy objects. When doing so, it’s critical that you take your safety and well-being into consideration.

Here are some tips you can follow:

•    Lift with your legs, not with your back
•    Keep the object as close to your body as possible when carrying
•    Don’t twist and turn while carrying the object
•    Plan your route before you pick up the object
•    Bend at your knees, not your waist

Along with the above, there’s one last thing to remember: it never hurts to ask for help. If you have any concerns about your ability to safely lift an object, find someone to assist you. This will make the task much easier.

Should you injure your back, neck, or any other body part as the result of heavy lifting, stop what you’re doing to assess your health. If you’re concerned about your ability to manage your treatment at home, seek medical assistance.
