Managing Arm and Neck Pain

When arm and neck pain strike at the same time, you’re likely to have serious concerns about the underlying issue. In many cases, this type of pain originates from the cervical spine.

As serious as it may be, it’s good to know that resolving this issue doesn’t always require surgery. In fact, a conservative approach for the first four weeks of treatment is recommended.

This can include but is not limited to:

•    The use of anti-inflammatory medications, such as Ibuprofen
•    Physical therapy to manage the pain
•    Epidural injections

Should a conservative approach to treatment fall short, it’s time to consult with a neurosurgeon. Not only does this help you better understand your situation, but you can discuss more advanced treatment options, such as surgery. This may be necessary to eliminate the pain once and for all, such as if it’s related to pressure on the spine or the nerve roots.

There’s no way of knowing what’s causing your arm and neck pain until you dig deeper. It’s your hope that conservative treatment measures will yield results, but it may take a more aggressive approach to help you reclaim a pain-free life.
