Back Pain Management Tips for the Winter Months
As the cold winter months close in, it’s time to review your health and make decisions that will keep you feeling good until warmer weather once again enters the area.
If you continue to deal with regular back pain, you know that the winter months can make your condition even worse.
In addition to staying in close contact with your medical team, there are a few basic tips you can follow to improve your health during this time of the year:
1. Don’t Strain Yourself
This means many things, from staying off the ski slopes to asking a neighbor to shovel your driveway.
Remember, it only takes one false movement to cause more pain and discomfort than you’re already experiencing.
2. Keep Your Back Warm by Stretching
Before you take on any outdoor activity, make sure you stretch your back for a good 10 to 15 minutes. This may sound like a waste of time, but it goes a long way in keeping your back warm and ensuring that you don’t cause additional damage.
3. Use a Heating Pad
As the cold weather impacts your back, consider using a heating pad to loosen it up. This won’t cure all your problems, but it may be provide you with the relief you need over the next few months.
If none of these tips work, if your back condition continues to worsen, don’t wait to contact an experienced specialist. At our practice, for example, we’re skilled in diagnosing and treating every back ailment imaginable.
