Arm Pain and the Cervical Spine: Treatment is Available

Are you suffering from the gradual onset of arm pain? Does it appear to be worsening with each passing day? If so, your pain may be origination from the cervical spine (the upper part of the spine).

While the pain and discomfort is enough to alter the way you live, it’s good to know that there are treatment options available.

Typically, conservative treatment measures are used for the first four weeks. This includes but is not always limited to:

•    Physical therapy
•    Anti-inflammatory medications such as Naproxen and Ibuprofen
•    Steroids (not always necessary)

Should the pain and symptoms continue, it’s time to take a closer look. An MRI will give your doctor a clear view of the cervical spine, thus allowing them to pinpoint any areas of concerns. For example, they may find that there’s pressure on the spine and/or nerve roots, with surgery the best option for fixing the problem once and for all.

Don’t assume that your arm pain will subside without intervention. This may be the case, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want to take a risk with your health, as it could result in more damage, pain, and discomfort in the long run.
