3 Easy Steps to Stretching Your Lower Back

Pretty woman doing yoga exercises in the parkThink about it: you use your lower back muscles day in and day out for a variety of tasks. From standing up to walking, from lifting to jumping, these muscles never stop working.

Since your lower back muscles are so important to your overall level of health, it’s important to keep them stretched and feeling good at all times.

Here are three easy steps you can take to stretch your lower back muscles:

·      Lie flat on your back and pull your knees toward your chest. Even if you can’t pull your knees all the way to your chest, you’re still getting the stretch you need to feel better. While breathing deeply, hold this position for 15 to 30 seconds.

·      Life flat on your back, pull your knees toward your chest, and then slowly swing them from left to right. While doing so, be sure to keep your lower back on the floor and maintain control at all times.

·      Get on all fours and do the cat stretch. This is exactly what it sounds like, with you arching your back and pulling your stomach up. Hold this position for 10 seconds and then arch your back the other way.

Stretching your lower back muscles may not sound like something that will improve your health, but you’ll be surprised at how much better it makes you feel. Furthermore, it can go a long way in helping you avoid a serious back injury that could require rest, relaxation, and maybe even rehabilitation.
