First-aid Treatment for a Back Injury: Know What You’re Doing

Heating padIf you suffer any type of back injury, there’s a good chance it will stop you dead in your tracks.

Rather than “fight through the pain” and hope for the best, you should take a few key first-aid steps to put yourself in better position to make a full recovery.

Here are a handful of tips to keep in mind:

·      Don’t continue with your day, thinking that your pain and discomfort will eventually subside (this is not always the case)

·      Get enough rest, as you need to give your injury time to heal

·      Consider the benefits of ice, such as applying an ice pack to the injured area several times per day for the first 48 hours

·      Take medication, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, to help relieve pain and swelling

These tips may be enough to help you get through the early stages of your back injury and on track to a full recovery.

However, you shouldn’t assume that you can treat your injury at home. If things aren’t getting any better after 24 hours, schedule an appointment with a back specialist.

Continuing to ignore the injury can lead to additional trouble, and that’s not something you need.
